Lyle Laeger (1928-2024) Lyle Laeger, a foundational pillar of Baker City Realty, passed away peacefully at his home in Baker City on July 12, 2024, at the age of 95. Born in Hemingford, Nebraska, on September 6, 1928, Lyle moved with his family to Idaho during his early childhood before embarking on a diverse and adventurous career. An enthusiastic minor league baseball player and a rodeo competitor in his youth, Lyle's vibrant spirit was matched by his professional ambitions. In 1951, he became a licensed auctioneer, traveling the livestock auction circuit extensively across the Northwest. Although he retired from auctioneering due to health reasons, his expertise continued to be sought after for many years. Lyle's true passion for real estate began in 1961, and in 1964, he founded Baker City Realty. Under his leadership, the company flourished, selling homes and ranches throughout Baker County until his retirement in 2008. His dedication to the community extended beyond real estate; he was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce and significantly contributed to local events like the Shriner's Hospital East-West Football game. Beyond his professional life, Lyle was deeply committed to his faith and community, being an active member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Alongside his beloved wife, Marguerite, he enjoyed traveling the world, enriching their lives with countless adventures across continents. Lyle's legacy is carried forward by his family, including his wife of 65 years, Marguerite, his sons Craig and Tony, daughter-in-law Terrie, grandson Hank, and numerous nieces and nephews. His contributions to Baker City and the field of real estate have left an indelible mark, ensuring his memory will continue to inspire and resonate within the community.
